This 2019 Toyota AFL Season, Marvel Stadium welcomed more than 1.3 million fans through its turnstiles.

The 43 home and away AFL games played at Marvel Stadium in 2019 attracted approximately 1,367,243 footy fans, at an average of 31,796 per match.

There were a number of exciting matches throughout the draw for all, including four Friday night games and twelve Saturday night blockbusters.

Highlights on the field included the first AFL match since officially being renamed Marvel Stadium. The event included new Marvel experiences and activations for footy fans to enjoy, such as the Spider-Man Climbing Wall. The night also involved a special celebrity appearance from Western Bulldogs fan and Marvel star, Chris Hemsworth.

The annual Good Friday game is always a highlight on the Marvel Stadium calendar, this year played between North Melbourne and Essendon. The twilight encounter attracted the highest attendance of the season with a crowd of 48,278.

In June, the stadium saw the fourth iteration of the annual Maddie’s Match, played between St Kilda and Richmond in honour of Saints legend Nick Riewoldt’s late sister and cousin of Tiger’s forward Jack Riewoldt, Maddie Riewoldt. The match attracted 40,962 and is an event that Marvel Stadium is proud to be a part of each year.

In Round 17, Western Bulldogs commemorated 30 years since the most significant moment in the Bulldog’s history – the Fightback of 1989 – thus their clash at Marvel Stadium against Melbourne was deemed as the Fightback Round. The Bulldogs stunned in an eight point win in front of 26,871.

Off the field, the 2019 season saw the stadium introduce a range of new food and beverage items, including healthier and gluten-free options. McCafe Outlets were also added in three separate locations throughout the stadium, offering footy fans attending the chance to warm up with a hot beverage.

The stadium aimed to make every Saturday a #SuperSaturday throughout the AFL season, giving fans a chance to win free seat upgrades, food and beverage vouchers and flights to Europe. Constantly striving to enhance the fan experience and make every patrons visit memorable, Marvel Stadium is pleased to have brought Super Saturdays to 21 2019 AFL matches in total.

Marvel Stadium would like to say thank you to all of those that attended matches at the venue this year, and would like to congratulate and offer the best of luck to its two tenant teams Essendon and Western Bulldogs that will be competing in this year’s race to finals.
