Marvel Stadium is set to host two inaugural AFL Women’s Matches in an AFLW first this Saturday, March 9. Don’t miss this Victorian Derby Double-Header, as Collingwood take on the Kangaroos, followed by the Bulldogs battling it out with Melbourne.

In the second last round of the 2019 season just before finals kicks off, this Saturday marks a special milestone for the stadium with AFL Women’s taking to our ground for the first time since the league’s inception in 2017.

Inspiring young women across Australia, the introduction of AFLW has seen a 14.2% increase in female football participation, a figure that is largely attributed to the success of the league.

The maiden AFLW clash at Marvel Stadium is a Victorian Derby Double-Header, and will see Collingwood take on Kangaroos, followed by Western Bulldogs battling it out with Melbourne.

Saturday’s home teams, Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs, will wear unique guernseys designed as a homage to Marvel’s first female-led Super Hero movie, Captain Marvel, in cinemas tomorrow. The theme of the double-header, “Higher, Further, Faster” has also been inspired by the story of Captain Marvel.

The Kangaroos are currently second on the ladder, with Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs below at fourth and fifth respectively, in conference A. Collingwood, in conference B, are also fifth.

It’s a HUGE day for women’s footy and admission is FREE, so make sure you head to the stadium and support the girls!
