Maddie's Match 2019

This weekend at Marvel Stadium sees the fourth iteration of the annual Maddie’s Match played between St Kilda and Richmond in honour of Saints legend Nick Riewoldt’s late sister and cousin of Tiger’s forward Jack Riewoldt, Maddie Riewoldt.

Maddie sadly lost her battle to Aplastic Angemia after five years in 2015. The game honours Maddie’s life and aims to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes.

Since its inception in 2015, Maddie’s Match has always been a highlight on the Marvel Stadium calendar, and is an event that the stadium is proud to be a part of each year. The past three installments have seen the stadium transform into a stunning sea of purple, with the limited edition merchandise often selling out and the AFL community getting behind the cause.

The last three Maddie’s Matches at Marvel Stadium has seen an average attendance of 43,168 patrons.

Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision has raised more than $7 million, allowing it to fund 15 important medical research projects, including the establishment of the National Aplastic Anaemia Registry and hosting the first ever National Research Symposium in Bone Marrow Failure Synromes.

You can #FightLikeMaddie and show your support for Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision by donating at or texting ‘MADDIE’ to 0400 662 662.

At Sunday’s match, everyone is encouraged to wear purple, Maddie’s favourite colour. MRV volunteers will be roaming and accepting donations stadium-wide, and MRV scarfs and beanies can be purchased at the following locations:

  • Marquee – Footbridge
  • Club Hub
  • Internal Gate 5
  • Internal Gate 7

This year’s match will also see the launch of Maddie’s Challenge; Team Saints v Team All Stars. Maddie’s Challenge will consist of a series of challenges taking place throughout the main breaks on game day. Stay tuned for team announcements during the week. There will also be a special on-field performance at the half-time break of ‘Never Walk Alone.’

All Food and Beverage outlets on Sunday will stock Maddie’s Vision purple lollipops and gingerbread biscuits and post-game the winning team will present a cheque to MRV.

Richmond fans will have the chance to purchase Alex Rance’s book and have him sign a personalised copy inside the Gate 6 Hub from Gates Open (approx. 11:30am).

On the field, both teams have struggled in the last few weeks and are both suffering from injury-stricken lists. Expect both the Saints and Richmond to come out fighting on Sunday under the roof at Marvel Stadium. The tigers currently lead the Maddie’s Match tally – 2-1, so the Saints will be aiming to even the scores.

Marvel Stadium is proud to be the home of Maddie’s Match and looks forward to seeing Saints and Tigers fans head-to-toe in purple, showing their support on Sunday!
